Bonfires & Sparklers!

Its Not all Numbers

Hi Reader

It's November, my favourite month with the trees showing their autumn colours and crunching of the leaves under foot when out for a walk. The highlight of cause being Bonfire Night - fireworks, sparklers and a cheeky pint of cider!

This week I had an awayday adventure to London, for the Xero Roadshow and industry event for Accountant and Bookkeepers to find out what new developments are happening in their software. (And a few CPD points earned😉)

One thing that did come up at during the day from the results of a survey of 1000 small business owners, only about 30% of them use payment services?

So I thought it might be an idea just to have a quick look at the advantages of using a payment service provider.

Do you use one? If you don't is there a reason why not maybe this short list will help you decide.

Firstly, What is a payment service?
A Payment service is a an external service that allows you to send a payment link to a client offering a secure checkout for them to pay you invoice. eg: Stripe, Paypal, GoCardless

5 THINGS TO CONSIDER SIGNING UP FOR ONE :

1: Flexibility
- they offer a range of options for sending or receiving money including bank transfers and credit cards
2: Speed - payments made through these services are often processed faster than traditional banking methods
3: Convenience - they allow you to make transactions from the comfort of your home or office
4:Security - they use encryption and other security measures to protect your financial information from fraud & theft.
5: Cost effective - while there will be a transaction fee (as there is with traditional banking) many services offer low or no fee solutions making them a more affordable option.

3 Things from my week:

⚖️ I've been reading .. Untamed - by Glennon Doyle, an interesting account of how to live life to your terms.

👀I've been watching ... the weather hoping & praying the rain stops so we can enjoy the fireworks this year - but it's not looking good so if anyone knows a good 'Sun Dance' let me know!

🥲I've been sad .. as a follower & massive fan of Friends, it was such a shock to hear of the passing of Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) and it really does feel like the loss of a friend , may he Rest in Peace.

Thanks reading would love to hear your thoughts on what helped or if you would like to know more about payment services , drop me an email

Until next time, Jane

Its Not all Numbers Hey Reader I started this newsletter a year ago, with the intention to drop by fortnightly with tips and tricks to support you with your business numbers as you negotiate life as a freelancer/self-employed business owner. But after a turbulent end to 2023 and in hindsight probably a little burnout, I admit my focus in 2024 become about me and my health. As a passionate people pleaser I tried to be there and do all for everyone, and along the way I forgot myself so...
