A two weeks that have included a short break in our Campervan - it's relatively new to us but the excitement of packing up a few things and hitting the road is part of the adventure of life.
But with this new found adventure, comes the need for a plan .. one that enables me to continue to provide my clients with support, and also keep us and the van on the road.
Campervans aren't cheap, and their popularity is growing so campsites aren't as cheap as they used to be. Therefore as well as organising my diary & establishing my boundaries, a financial plan is must!
It's also the subject of my latest blog , which you can read over here,
TL:DR -
Managing finances as a solo business owner can be challenging at the best of times not just when the economy is uncertain but by having a financial plan in place you can help ensure that your business remains healthy throughout the ''thick and the thin''
5 THINGS TO CONSIDER:
1: A Financial Plan - knowing your income and expenses helps you forecast your future costs, and make decisions influenced by the right information.
2: A Financial Reserve - set aside a portion of your income each month to create a reserve 'pot' in anticipation of uncertain times.
3: Stress-Test - consider how you business would be affected by a change of circumstances (eg. loss of a client, increase in stock price)
4: Maintain Relationships - with banks & suppliers, they may be more likely to help you out when you face an unforeseen situation
5: Stay Up to Date - with regulations and laws relevant to your business is essential but will help avoid costly mistakes
3 Things from my week:
\n⚖️ I've been reading .. The Life Atelier - an insightful look at how to reduce your working week.
📺I've been watching ... Wilderness - on Amazon prime, it's a little weird, and in places a little predictable. It's got nothing to do with planning, unless you count it as part of the plan to relax & unwind
👂I've been listening to .. Hint of Hustle - a podcast about speaking! as a camera show introvert to help me speak up in public (but also carries across life and business)
Thanks reading would love to hear your thoughts on what helped or if you have any questions about creating a financial plan , drop me an email

Its Not all Numbers Hey Reader I started this newsletter a year ago, with the intention to drop by fortnightly with tips and tricks to support you with your business numbers as you negotiate life as a freelancer/self-employed business owner. But after a turbulent end to 2023 and in hindsight probably a little burnout, I admit my focus in 2024 become about me and my health.
